So, a couple races are finally booked and scheduled.

Signed up for my birthday race, Anchorage Mayor’s Midnight Sun Marathon, which will be on June 19th. Super excited to get up to Alaska and explore and run a full, since I haven’t run a full since November 2019. Gotta say it was pretty weird seeing the sign up and seeing age on race day of 40. I guess it isn’t all that far away now.

And hey, wanna join me for a birthday marathon or half, you can sign up here https://runsignup.com/Race/AK/Anchorage/MayorsMarathon?remMeAttempt=

I also got to finish my deferral from last year for Urban Bourbon Half Marathon. That will be on October 16th. And they are planning for a full race and after party, and I am pretty pumped about that. If you want to give this race a go, you can sign up here

and use code BIBRAVEUBHM2021 to save 10%

Got another race scheduled….and….the big new….

I’m running a 50k in December, the BMW Dallas Marathon weekend, I will be running on December 12th and I am pretty excited. If you want to join me sign up here rundallas.com

Peace the eff out 2020

Well, I mean the title says it all, I am very ready for 2021. I will not try to tell you my year has been terrible, it hasn’t, I am very lucky, I still have a job and have been told we are now WFH forever. I love working from home, Rosie loves that I work from home, so this is a win. Lars still has his job, we are both busy and other then no traveling and not being able to see our families much this year wasn’t terrible. Do I miss traveling, of course, do I Miss just being able to see my family yes, but in the scheme of things, I am doing fine.

Before Covid went and ruined everything, I did get to travel a bit. I ran a half in Baton Rouge, LA and actually had a really great race and time there.

Then I got to run the Old Fashioned 10 miler in February and again, had another great race.

And at the end of February I got to go to Texas and see my cousin Garrett get married, which was a lovely time and I am so glad I went.

And that was it for traveling. I did keep up running, did a couple virtual races but that was it. I decided to take October off and rest and now I am back at it. Training for some big goals for 2021, which I will get into later.

Some wins for 2020, I did manage to do one big thing I have always tried and failed at, I finally stopped biting my nails. Being home all the time actually helped with this, as I wasn’t driving and sitting in traffic 5 days week, which would leave me bored and so, would bite my nails. Now if I get bored, I find something else to do, tweet, play phone games, read, clean. So yeah pretty happy about this

Around May, my office decided that almost all office workers, would be work from home permanently, so I made the decision that I would no longer have natural colored hair. So…yeah my hair is purple now and I love it

Now onto plans for 2021…

I also realize all of this could go to shit, I’m not that delusional, but trying to be positive. So, 2021 will be a big birthday year for me, in June, I will turn 40, so I needed some big goals for this year, and hopefully getting vaccinated will be on that list too.

March 7, 2021 – Little Rock Half Marathon (I have signed up for this) I have always wanted the medals they give out for this race, so I signed up. They have a great covid protocol and if it is cancelled, then I can defer to 2022, which is what I prefer, I am done with virtual.

June 19, 2021 – Anchorage Mayors Midnight Sun Marathon (not registered yet) I have been told registration will open in early 2021 so I will sign up then, but I have always wanted to go to Alaska for my 40th and hoping this will happen.

October 16, 2021 – Urban Bourbon Half, deferral from 2020

December: BMW Dallas 50k (not even open to sign up) but I want to do one Ultra and this one seems like a good one all road and get to visit my Aunt in TX. I know this is a repeat state, but I wanted to do an ultra for my 40th year and this race meets the criteria I want.

I do want to get some PRs in 2021, so I will continue working with my very awesome coach Kristen from findyourstridecoaching.com and hopefully see those lower numbers in 2021. Excited to get back to a “normal” life and travel again, and hopefully see some new and old running friends out there.

I send love to everyone who has had a rough 2020, I hope 2021 brings you peace and joy

Aaaannnd…we’re done

“Disclaimer: I received entry to Urban Bourbon Half Marathon to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!”

So it is official now, Urban Bourbon is cancelled, they were not able to get enough people to sign up for the race. I understand, right now traveling isn’t really everyone’s priority and the world is pretty scary. So this was it for me, I am running a virtual race next weekend and then I am done running for the rest of October. Yes, done. I need a break.

I am already planning 2021, and well, 2022 cause who knows what will happen. But I did chose to defer Urban Bourbon until 2021, so Kentucky, I hope to see you next year, and celebrate getting through 2020 with some delicious Bourbon.

Review: Knockaround Sports Collection

Disclaimer: I received Knockaround Sport Sunglasses to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro ambassador, and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

You know I love me some Knockaround sunglasses, I mean I own, about 10 pairs. But when I learned we could test these out I couldn’t pass it up. How are these different you ask, well they have rubber nose pads, so they do not slip, move or bounce.

I made sure to really test them out, I took them on multiple long runs and even got to use them in some of my shorter speed work outs, and they are right, no bouncing. No slipping down my nose, which I generally have huge issues with, as I have a very tiny nose. If you are looking for great sports glasses at a really great price, I highly recommend these.

They come in some really cool colors, as per usual with Knockaround, and you cannot be their prices. These are really great quality glasses that will not cost you an arm and a leg.

Please go check out http://www.knockaround.com and you can use code BibRaveKnocks5 to save 20% off an entire order (only one time per customer)

Mask Up

Disclaimer: I received a Body Helix Ultra Light Face Mask to review as part of being a Bibrave Pro. Learn more about becoming a Bibrave Pro (ambassador), and check out Bibrave.com to review, find, and write race reviews.

Strange times we are in right now, and with there being a pandemic, to be safe, you have to wear a mask.  I got to try out the Body Helix Ultra light face mask, and it was pretty great.

First off, there are sizes, not one size fits all, so it fits your face nicely.  It comes with extra filters it also has nose pieces to make sure it fits your nose perfectly.  The mask complies with CDC recommendations and it is washable, which is just what is needed right now. The parts that go over your ears are thick and comfy, no rubbing.

I wear this mask to walk Rosie everyday, easy to breathe with it on, and overall pretty great in the heat.IMG_20200817_135106_212

Also wore it out shopping, and let me tell you, doesn’t move at all I don’t have to constantly adjust it while I am looking at my grocery list. It’s really great.20200811_144225

Road Tested: Body Helix Ultra Light Face Mask

BibRave Product Review: 2020 must-have Body Helix Ultra-Light face mask

It’s all Virtual

“Disclaimer: I received entry to Loco Racing Smuttynose Rockfest Half to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!”

Well, I would say I am surprised but I am not, the Smuttynose Rockfest Half is now virtual.  We all know why, safety is top priority right now, and I get it.  I will still be running a half on October 4th, I will just being doing it on the local rail trail instead.  I will probably just do it as a fun run too, I have learned racing virtually just doesn’t work for me.  I can’t get myself geared up for it, so a nice 13.1 mile fun run will be nice.  Hopefully the weather will be great and I can get some great tree pics while out and about.

Not sure if I will be running anymore races in 2020, I Have one more that is still currently on, but we shall see on that.  Right now I will enjoy my virtual races and hope that I can race and travel again in 2021.

Times are a changing

“Disclaimer: I received entry to Urban Bourbon Half Marathon to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!”

So have all of your races been cancelled like mine?  Well I’ve still got one on the calendar, Urban Bourbon Half Marathon.  For them to still have the race they have had to make a lot of changes so that way everyone can be safe.  I really respect the fact they are trying so hard to keep this going but also make sure everyone will be ok doing it.

First off, it is in a new location, so it will be more of the Suburban Bourbon half, and that is ok.  The new location is in the Parklands, so no running through the city, but I don’t mind running through parks, I bet the views will be lovely.

Also, there is a rolling start, no more all hanging out in a corral together, you can pick a time, or if you had already signed up, they assigned you a time.  You show up then and take off.  While I will miss hanging out with my fellow runners, I understand, standing around with them is not in any ones best interest right now. Also, as part of your swag, you will get a gaiter, so you know, you can cover your face when you are within 6 feet of someone.

There will be no post race bash, again understandable.  There will be some virtual bourbon experiences for those that run the race, so I am excited for that, always cool to learn more about bourbon.

The big thing, is, if we want this race to happen, we need people to sign up.  Louisville has authorized them to run this race, but if they do not reach 1900 paid registrations by September 26th, then they will have to cancel (you will get a refund or you can defer to 2021 if they do cancel) but sign up so this race can go off.  You can use code BOURBONRAVE2020 to save 10%

Also, check out the sweet medal you will get, so sign up

Stepping up

Disclaimer: I received an Amazon gift card to  review and promote the FitnessBank Step Challenge with Des Linden as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

For the past month I have been in a step challenge on the Fitness Bank app, and the one and only Des Linden was part of it too. Having this challenge this month has been great.  Having everything cancelled was a quite a downer and this was a nice positive thing to force me to get outside and get some walking in, Rosie very much approved of that.

The Fitness Bank app was super easy to set up and use.  There are lots of other challenges to join in so if you are looking for something to help you get out and walk, join in. You do not need to sign up for an account to use the step tracker, if you want to, cool but it is not required.  You can also get your friends to join and set up some step challenges with them, nothing like a little friendly competition to get you motivated.

While I am no where close to winning this, as my steps have gone way down with less running, that is ok, I still enjoyed it, and it was nice to say I got to compete against Des Linden, cause that will never happen again.IMG_20200421_112150_674

Another one gone

Disclaimer: I promoted Run Madtown  as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!”

As you know, we are losing a lot of races this year.  Looks like there will be no spring racing this year.  Run Madtown has had to cancel, if you were planning on running please check your email or their website for more info.

If you would like to know more about the race, to get some ideas for 2021, then check out my review from running it last year

I hope you all are staying home and staying safe.  So that I can see you all racing in the fall
