Review: Brooks Ghost 14

I love Brooks, I have loved them for a while, but the Ghost 14s are just really great. The shoes always have great cushion, and lightness and comfort, but now they are carbon neutral and how nice is that. I love a company that makes a great products and also is trying to help the environment.

My other favorite thing about Brooks Ghost is all the fun colors and designs they come in. You can get plain, if that is what you prefer, but purple animal print, come on that is so cool.

I also, just want to shout out Brooks Customer service again too, in my blog post about my race in Alaska, I mentioned how a I lost a pair of sneakers, and Brooks replaced the Free of Charge, I mean that is some great customer service there. So you get great sneakers, in fun colors and a company that cares, win win win.

Review: Shipyard Old Part Half Marathon

Disclaimer: I received entry into Shipyard Old Port Half Marathon to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review, find, and write race reviews!”

So not my first race in Maine, but a state I love to visit and Old Port is one of the most fun cities to visit. So I was very excited to get a run a half there and then, of course go explore the restaurants.

Overall I am happy with how I did in this race, was I hoping for better yes, but once I explain about the race you will understand.

Bib pick up was at the local arena and super easy to find and get in and out of. You could also get your ID checked and get a bracelet so you could quickly get into the after party the next day, which was nice and saved time.

Race morning was lovely, nice cool sunny day. Didn’t stay cool, but that’s what can happen when you run in June. The race took off and we went up a decent hill to start, and I thought well that wasn’t too bad. We then ran on a trail for a good chunk of the beginning of the race, lots of lovely views, but hard to get around or break apart from groups

Around Mile 7 you get back into downtown and I got to see Lars again, who had bought donuts for me, smart man. But then….ooohh the hills started. Around mile 9 going into 10 you start going uphill and I mean, not a rolling hill all sorts of incline. And they really do not stop until Mile 12, yeah, that end of the race was rough and in the end slowed me down. But we did run through a cute neighborhood, still HILLS.

My friend Wil also ran this race and it is always nice to see him

Overall, fun race, great support, plenty of potties, and water stops. The medal and shirt we got were cool. The views for the beginning half of the race are pretty stunning and almost make the hills at the end worth it. Almost

I would still recommend the race, just know, HILLS

Review: Whitepaw RunMitts

Disclaimer: I received Whitepaw RunMitts to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review, find, and write race reviews!”

Do you live in an area with a harsh winter, you know, regularly gets below freezing with windchills making it even colder? Do you also have to go outside in that weather, be it running, or walking, or just have to go to the grocery store. Then you need to get yourself a pair of Whitepaw RunMitts.

I got the wind and water resistant ones but you could get the double velour fleece ones or the lightweight ones, depending on your hand warming needs. These are thumbless, which was odd at first, but man, it really helps keep your hands warm. They do fold over, so if you need to use your hand, it is very easy to do.

So super easy to still get to your watch, or phone if you need to.

I wore mine on some of the coldest and windiest days in February, like -10 windchill days and my hands would sweat, that’s how warm they were.

They are super soft, very comfy, they do come in sizes, I have VERY small hands and wear a small, so I would size up if you are not like me with the tiny hands.

Whitepaw RunMitts is also a women owned/black owned business and she is a baseball fan (that may matter only to me but hey, had to mention) so it is a great company to support. I have heard from non running friends who have bought these and claim this is the warmest their hands have been, so hey, you don’t need to be a runner to want these.

Go to to purchase them, and use code BIBRAVE5 to save $5. (Good until March 31st 2021) She sells other things as well, so purchase some other stuff while you are there too.

Review: Knockaround Sports Collection

Disclaimer: I received Knockaround Sport Sunglasses to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro ambassador, and check out to review, find, and write race reviews!

You know I love me some Knockaround sunglasses, I mean I own, about 10 pairs. But when I learned we could test these out I couldn’t pass it up. How are these different you ask, well they have rubber nose pads, so they do not slip, move or bounce.

I made sure to really test them out, I took them on multiple long runs and even got to use them in some of my shorter speed work outs, and they are right, no bouncing. No slipping down my nose, which I generally have huge issues with, as I have a very tiny nose. If you are looking for great sports glasses at a really great price, I highly recommend these.

They come in some really cool colors, as per usual with Knockaround, and you cannot be their prices. These are really great quality glasses that will not cost you an arm and a leg.

Please go check out and you can use code BibRaveKnocks5 to save 20% off an entire order (only one time per customer)

Review: CEP 3.0 Tall Socks

Disclaimer: I received an CEP 3.0 Tall Socks to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews!

After my calf issues last training cycle, I have been trying compression sleeves and socks.  The socks I had tried before were soooo tight and so difficult to get over my large calves, which made me just not want to use them, struggling with someone at 4:30 am, not pleasant at all.  Then I tried the CEP 3.0 tall socks and boom they hit the spot.

First off, they are easy to get on, without sacrificing the compression part, they are soft and roll right over my calves and hence, much easier to deal with at 4:30 am.  I have warn them for all my track workouts and long runs and they are comfy for both.  They are thicker in the foot area as well, so that felt nice while running, also super nice when winter running, a nice bonus when you have some extra layers for warmth.

If you wish to get some and try them for yourself, you can go here

I do really recommend these and I will be buying myself another pair because I do love them so much.  These will be my race socks for all my upcoming races.  Which reminds me, I need to go update that blog post, cause there are more races in my future.

Review: Addaday Massage Roller

“Disclaimer: I received an Addaday Pro Roller to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review, find, and write race reviews!”

All runners know about the foam rollers or stick rollers, you have a love hate relationship with them, they hurt but man, do they help.  I have a foam roller and a stick roller to travel with, but when given the chance to try the addaday massage roller, I had to try it, it looked so different from what I have already, and hey could only help.

You will notice this roller, looks quite different, let me tell you, all those notches on it, they dig DEEP, and when my hammy was tightening up last week, it got right in there to loosen it up.  also, that lovely little red knob, great for your feet, as someone who has dealt with PF, this is great, trust me it stings at first, but your feet will feel so much better after 52440829_10213412523647858_7659066491483979776_o

If you are a runner, or do any sort of work outs, I would recommend this roller, it gets in so much deeper then regular rollers and really pushes on the points you need pushed.  You can go to and buy it there, or check out your local runner store for it.  I have not traveled recently, but I would bet this is very easy to travel with and I will be taking it with me to Wisconsin when I do Run Madtown.

Overall, my advice, get this, it is great.

Review: SPI Belt Beam Hat

UPDATE:  DISCOUNT CODE FOR YOU use BIBRAVE to get 20% off any SPIBelt Item

So I won’t lie, I am not much of a hat person, I have a large dome and I usually find hats uncomfortable.  They pinch my head or fall off, so I generally avoid them and just use a head band.  But a hat with lights, I had to give this a try, and I am really glad I did.

I do run early in the morning, usually around 5 am, and this time of year, that means it is dark out and dark for my entire run.  I do wear knucklelights and they are great, but they move with my hands, so having a light that would just say forward and steady would be nice.  This hat does that and doesn’t bother my dome.

The directions to get it working were a bit hard to follow, but I figured it out and got it all set up.  I did notice the battery for the front lights, was inside that hat and I was worried that it would dig into my head, it didn’t.  Overall the hat is super comfy, nice wicking material and also has reflective stuff on the top of it.  The lights on the front are nice and bright, and send a nice beam of light out ahead.  It also has lights on the back that flash, which is great too.

The hat didn’t move during any runs, stayed in place but didn’t squeeze my head, it is adjustable so should be able to fit just about everyone.

If you are a person who runs in the dark like me, you should really look into getting this hat, it would be great for you see and be seen, I do highly recommend it.44474698_10212571199855289_8669870715131920384_o

Review: Oofos Fiber Low Shoes

Disclaimer: I received a pair of Oofos OOMG Fibre Low shoes to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review, find, and write race reviews! All opinions are my own

I should mention that this is not my first go around with Oofos, in 2016 I was training for the Boston Marathon with team DFMC and Oofos offered all of us free sandals, so of course, I got myself a pair. And they were pretty great, but these shoes, are really so much better.

The shoes are sooo comfortable, the really support your feet and they do not wreck the top of your feet, like the sandals did to me.  After a long run, I love to throw on the shoes to walk around in, as not only do my feet feel better, but my knees, and hips just feel so great too.  These shoes are just amazing and if you run, you should get yourself a pair.

Here is some info about the shoes:

OOFOS are made of OOfoam
OOfoam recovery technology absorbs 37% more impact than other footwear foams
OOfoam impact absorbing recovery technology has been scientifically proven to reduce stress
on your body while walking, allowing you to recover faster after a workout and feel better all
The Footbed Design
Our footbeds are designed to cradle your arches and move with your feet, allowing for a more natural
feel through your gate cycle
Also, if you were wondering why, Oofos was so generous to team DFMC,  Duncan Finigan, the Director of Marketing for Oofos was diagnosed with cancer, and was getting treatment at Dana Farber.  Now, when you buy Project Pink shoes, $10 is donated to project pink, and any shoes you buy on 3% of sales goes to Dana Farber, a cause near and dear to my heart.
So not only do you get shoes that will totally help your feet and legs, you can donate to a great cause, it really is a win win

Review: NuGo Egg White Bars

Disclaimer: I received the NuGo Egg White Bars to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews

First off, let me give you the base info about these bars:

*NuGo starts with the highest quality real fruits and nuts, then adds in three Non-GMO egg whites, resulting in 12-14 grams of protein per bar. Egg white protein is a complete protein, containing all of the amino acids the body needs, while being virtually fat and cholesterol free.*

*Enjoy three paleo flavors: Dark Chocolate Sea Salt, Maple Pecan and Blueberry. Also available in peanut butter for all those peanut lovers!*

*Features of NuGo Egg White Protein Bars:*
12-14g protein
Whole Food
Paleo (3 flavors)
Certified Gluten-Free and Kosher Pareve
Real Fruits and Nuts
No Dairy, Soy or Artificial Ingredients
No Added Sugars

So I got to try all of the flavors, and I really only like 2, not because the other ones are not tasty, it’s because I don’t like huge chunks of nuts, and the dark chocolate and maple pecan have large pieces of nuts in them.  But I know many, of the other pros who tried these LOVED the Maple Pecan (I will link to their blogs below)

Blueberry was my absolute favorite flavor, and I plan to purchase more of these, mainly cause I love these bars to eat before long runs.  They do have a sticky texture, but with a bottle of water, I find them fine to eat.  Before a long run I find them to be perfect, not too heavy, but keep my stomach happy for the extended time running.  They are also great to travel with, and I took them along when I went to Seattle to eat on the plan rides and to have one before my half.IMG_20180608_045015_406

So rather then have to make myself a small breakfast, or make sure that I buy stuff when I travel, I will now use these as my pre long run/race snack.  Tasty, not too heavy, and keeps your stomach happy, I do recommend these, and you wish to purchase some you can go here   (and until August 3rd if you use code BIBRAVE you can get 15% off a box)

also if you wish to find a store that sells them, you can go here

here are what some of the other pros think about these bars:

Review: Health Warrior Chia Bars

Disclaimer: I received Health Warrior Chia Bars and coloring book to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador) and check out to review find and write race reviews!

Right now, I know what you’re thinking…chia bars?  Really??  Seriously, they’re good.  I got to try 2 flavors, Apple Cinnamon and Dark Chocolate.  I enjoyed both, but I really liked Apple Cinnamon better.  I found the dark chocolate to not be super deep chocolaty flavor, it was still good though.  The apple cinnamon tasted like little apple pies, and well, I love apple pies.

I did already enjoy chia, and use it often in foods but I had never had a chia bar and wondered if I would like the texture.  Other then then the chia getting stuck in your teeth, the texture is great and like eating a regular granola bar, but so much better for you. The are certified gluten free, 100% Vegan, only 4 g of fiber and 3 g of protein and only 3 g of sugar.  And they do help you feel full, they are a great in between meal snack.  While recovering from my hip injury, I have been going to PT, and I go after work, so I end up eating dinner late, I always brought a chia bar with me and it helped me get through PT without getting hangry, and my PT appreciates that.

where I ate most of them, in my car

They have many more flavors, you don’t just have to get the 2 I tried. They have Acai Berry, Banana Nut, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Coconut, Dark Chocolate Cherry, and Mango and you can also get mix packs, but let me tell you about something even cooler, if you order your bars with this link

You can get a super cool marathon training coloring book with your order, and I mean, who doesn’t love coloring, I know I do and this book is full of funny pics to color in and many you will know all about if you are a runner

why yes that is poop

I highly recommend these bars, in fact, when I am done with what I have, I will order more, they are super tasty, good for you, and keeps me full until I can have a meal.  I hope you all enjoy them as much as I do
